DOTr starts construction of railway to Laguna

The Department of Transportation said it will kick off on Monday the construction of the 31.5 kilometers of railway segment of the  South Commuter Railway Project to connect Metro Manila with Laguna province. 

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista will lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the SCRP segments from Alabang to Calamba.

These include the construction of the viaduct structure and elevated stations in Alabang, Muntinlupa, San Pedro, Pacita, Binan, Santa Rosa, Cabuyao, Banlic and Calamba.

“It will also start the removal of the existing PNR tracks from Alabang to Calamba following the PNR’s temporary closure of the route’s operations,” DOTr said. 

The DOTr earlier awarded three contract packages, namely CPs S-04, S-05 and S-06, to the joint venture of Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd and Dong-Ah Geological Engineering Company Ltd.

The CP S-04 covers the building and civil engineering works for about 8.5 km of railway viaduct structure including elevated stations at Alabang and Muntinlupa, while the CP S-05 covers the building and civil engineering works for about 12.8 km of railway viaduct structure including elevated stations at San Pedro, Pacita, Biñan, and Santa Rosa.

The CP S-06 covers the building and civil engineering works for around 10.2 km of railway viaduct structure including elevated stations at Cabuyao, Banlic, and Calamba.
