Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative has launched a new campaign as part of the management’s commitment to sustaining the overall improvements to the city’s electricity situation.
The Zamcelco management led the kick-off of the GetSET25 (Stable Electricity Twenty-25) Zamboanga campaign, joined by more than 7,000 member-consumers at the power cooperatives 2023 Annual General Members’ Assembly.
Zamcelco chief management officer Atty. Rommel Agan said during the campaign launch the electric cooperative is undertaking several initiatives to achieve its goals.
These include the installation of additional transformer units, construction of new substations, procurement of service vehicles, and better ways to improve systems reliability through clearing activities, obstruction removal, and more.
Agan said Zamcelco has begun an inventory of its entire franchise to evaluate and facilitate the needed improvements.
“If anyone can look back to what the situation was before 2019, I’m sure you’d agree that the new Zamcelco has already begun implementing upgrades to the power system,” Agan said.
Meanwhile, Zamcelco board president Jeffrey Russ Taripe lauded the member-consumer owners “for their unwavering support in making our cooperative an illumination of power reliability in our community.”
“The participation of our member-consumers is absolutely valuable to the success of GetSET25 Zamboanga. We’re happy to find that thousands of them joined us today,” Zamcelco general manager Gannymede Tiu said.
Also in attendance were Zamboanga City councilors Cary Pioc, Jimmy Villaflores, Jerome Santos, Vino Guingona, and VP Elago.
Zamcelco executive committee chairman Atty. Jomar Castillo and Agan discussed how the management succeeded in keeping the EC’s generation charges low–the second cheapest in Mindanao.
Castillo attributed it to the new management’s efforts in “managing the supply contracts of the cooperative to achieve the most favorable power mix for our customers.”
“In launching GetSET25 Zamboanga, we aim to strengthen electricity stability in our area while we continue to address the current challenges of the Philippine energy sector,” Crowninvestment Holdings president Edwin Joseph Galvez said.
Crowninvestment Holdings has a stake in Zamcelco as its investor-manager.
“Through collaborative efforts, strategic improvements in the city grid, and a focus on providing reliable and affordable electricity, we’re poised to enhance the quality of life for member-consumers and contribute to the development of the Zamboanga region,” said Galvez.
