The Public Attorney’s Office (PA0) warns commercial establishments against misleading the buying public on the retail price of consumer goods as set by Republic Act 10909

During its weekly #PALA program, PAO chief Persida Acosta reminded business owners to put a price tag on anything that is being bought and sold.

A price tag is any device written, printed, affixed or attached to an article for sale, or displayed in a consumer retail or service establishment to indicate its retail price.

“If a business operator fails to do so, he or she may face the corresponding penalties, suspension or revocation of the permit to operate,” she said.

RA 10909 or “An Act Prohibiting Business Establishments from Giving Insufficient or No Change to Consumers and Providing Penalties Therefor” is a policy of the State to protect the interest and promote the general welfare of the consumer as well as establish standards of conduct for business and industry.

It is for the protection of the consumers against deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales act and practice.

“Restaurants are also covered by the law. Even an issued receipt must bear the value-added tax of one purchase,” Acosta said.

“All must abide by the law,” she added.
