13 power firms get clearance for grid impact study

The Department of Energy granted clearance to 13 power generation companies to undertake system impact study in May.

Four of the 13 projects were wind projects, including Himaya Offshore Energy Corp.’s 600-megawatt Basiad Bay Offshore Wind Power Project in offshore Camarines Norte.

The DOE also approved Solus Wind Energy Corp.’s 300-MW Sorsogon onshore wind power project and Mirus Wind Energy Corp.’s 250-MW Camarines Norte wind power project.

It also approved Vent Fort Energy Corp’s 500-MW offshore Malay wind power project in Aklan.

Five solar projects were granted clearance for the grid impact study, including NewAsia Power Energy Corp.’s 131-MW Cabuyao 4 floating solar PV plant at the Laguna de Bay and Cabuyao, Laguna and NewAsia Power’s 131-MW Cabuyao 5 floating solar project also located in Laguna de Bay.

The other solar plants were Solar Tanauan Corp.’s 64-MW Maragondon solar power plant in Cavite, NorteSol IV’s Inc.’s 131-MW Cabuyao 3 floating solar plant in Laguna de Bay and NortelSol Inc.’s 131-MW Cabuyao 2 floating solar plant also in Laguna.

Meanwhile, two hydropower plants were cleared to conduct a grid impact study including the 3.7-MW Silo-o hydro project of Philnewriver Power Corp. in Bukidnon and the 15-MW Upper Tabuk hydro plant of DPJ Engineers and Consultants.

Other projects granted clearance were Malita Power Inc.’s 56-MW diesel plants in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga del Sur and SPC Island Power Corp.’s 30-MW Bohol battery energy storage power plant in Tagbilaran City.

The DOE has been inviting investors in renewable energy and other technologies to participate in the country’s growing power industry.
