THE Taguig City government is investigating the source of contamination that resulted in the food poisoning of at least 40 people in Barangay Upper Bicutan last Tuesday.
The City Health Office (CHO) padlocked the stall believed to have sold the toxic food that may have caused the mass poisoning.
The CHO s that the store would remain closed until the probe was completed and the source of the toxic food determined.
Mayor Laarni Cayetano ordered her men from the Incident Management Team and the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CEDSU) of the CHO to take immediate action in coordination with barangay officials in the area.
The local government also set up an Incident Command Post at the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to receive residents who felt symptoms and needed medical attention.
Initial reports from the city’s Public Information Office showed that more than 40 residents have felt symptoms of food poisoning.
Of this number, 13 were taken to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital, seven were brought to other hospitals, while 22 were sent home after being checked and given medicine in the treatment area of the Incident Command Post.
CEDSU personnel took a food sample for analysis, while the Sanitation Office will also analyze the water source of the food stall.
As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, seven of the victims that were brought to the hospitals were already discharged.
