The City Government of Caloocan together with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) – affected community and advocates lighted a candle to commemorate those who lost their battle with the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) or the most advanced stage of HIV.
Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan expressed his utmost support and respect to the HIV-affected community. He likewise addressed the public to help and contribute in breaking the barriers of stigma and discrimination.
“Sa ating mga kababayan na apektado ng karamdamang ito, gusto ko pong maipadama ang aming pantay na pagtingin, suporta, at respeto para inyo,” the Mayor said.
“Samantala, hinihikayat ko naman po ang lahat na makibahagi at tumulong upang tuluyang mawakasan ang diskriminasyon at mga maling paniniwala tungkol sa HIV-AIDS,” he added.
Moreover, the City Health Department Head Dr. Evelyn Cuevas promoted the HIV-related free services being offered by the city government.
“Bukod sa libreng HIV test kits, may counseling at awareness seminars and orientations po tayong ibinibigay at isinasagawa para sa ating mga mamamayan,” Dr. Cuevas said.
Mayor Along also mentioned the efforts that they will continuously implement in order to guide the community and help those who are already affected by the disease.
“Patuloy po tayong magbibigay ng gabay at mga libreng serbisyo sa ating mga mamamayan at mas magsisikap tayong matututukan ang pangangailangan ng mga kababayan nating apektado ng sakit na ito,” Mayor Along stated.
