ACEN, AMI Renewables to develop Vietnam energy storage system

ACEN Corp. and AMI Renewables announced Wednesday the joint development of Vietnam’s first grid-connected battery energy storage system.

AMI AC Renewables through subsidiary AMI Khanh Hoa signed a memorandum of understanding with American firm Honeywell to collaborate on a 7.5-megawatt-hour BESS pilot project in Khanh Hoa, Vietnam.

ACEN said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange Honeywell would integrate Vietnam’s first grid-connected battery energy storage system project to the 50-megawatt Khanh Hoa Solar plant.

It said the BESS project aims to demonstrate the commercial viability of battery energy storage in Vietnam and showcase the practical benefits of renewable energy, including its reliability and efficiency.

It also seeks to help Vietnam meet its climate action targets.

The pilot project, co-funded by a grant from U.S. Mission Vietnam, will demonstrate how energy storage can help Vietnam integrate more renewable energy into its power system to meet ambitious climate goals.

U.S. Mission Vietnam awarded AMI AC Renewables a grant of $2.9 million in October 2021 to spearhead and develop the project.
