Taguig City Mayor Laarni Cayetano on Sunday personally visited and gave financial assistance to families affected by a recent fire in Barangay Ususan.

Cayetano was accompanied by Barangay Ususan Captain Marie Marcelino when she met the families.

According to Marcelino, 35 families were affected by the fire at No. 23 Kalayaan Street. The blaze reached the second alarm and destroyed more than P900,000 worth of properties.

The city government in close coordination with the city’s Bureau of Fire Protection office had launched an intensified campaign to inform residents about the effective prevention of fire in the city.

City officials are also conducting house-to-house inspection in all 28 villages of the city. They said each household needs to be informed on how they can make their loved ones and properties safe from the devastation of fire.

Cayetano said the first thing to do is to arm citizens with the knowledge of what really are fire hazards as well as with information on knowing what to do and what not to do when a blaze hits a community.
