Not to be outdone by their juniors and seniors counterparts in Team Philippines, the cadet fencers booked two golds, a silver, and bronze medals on the final day of the Southeast Asian Fencing Federation Championship late Friday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Taking the gilts for Team PH were Meagan Elizabeth Co Say, who bagged the gold medal in women’s saber, and Alexa Larrazabal who topped the women’s cadet epee.
Say defeated second seed Perada Limsakul of Thailand in the final. She racked up four victories on the way to the battle for gold, including against two Thai opponents to get the top seeding in the knockout round and against Filipina Ivana Cordelea in the semifinal.
Interestingly, Larrazabal won earlier competed and bagged a bronze medal each in the senior and juniors divisions before finally taking the gold in the cadet event with a 15-10 win over fellow Filipina Ashley Mae Michelle Harrison.
Larrazabal, who is being considered for the Cambodia-SEA Games bound squad, won all her 10 games—six in the elimination round, three in the knockout round, and the final.
Taking the bronze was Hannah Belarmino in women’s foil and Joseph Anthony Godbout bagging the silver men’s epee on Thursday night.
The Philippine juniors and seniors squads brought home multiple medals from the competition.
