St. Benilde keeps hands off legal case vs. Amores

The cases filed by De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Jimboy Pasturan and Taine Davis against Jose Rizal University’s John Amores on Friday morning were done in a personal capacity.

CSB official said the school has not officially given the green light to file complaints of physical injuries against Amores following a bench-clearing incident last Tuesday in the CSB-JRU game of the 98th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men’s basketball tournament at the FilOil-EcoOil Arena in San Juan.

“It was the decision of the family. It was done in a personal capacity,” said Dax Castellano, the management committee representative of the school.

Pasturan and Davis were both punched by Amores after the Heavy Bomber charged the Blazers’ bench with 3:22 left in their game.

Their cases were filed before the San Juan prosecutors’ office and in the presence of CSB Blazers coach Charles Tiu, and a lawyer. They were filed right before the University of Perpetual Help Altas pulled off an 89-83 subduing of the Blazers.

Tiu admitted the players need to get over the distractions and emotions over the incident, now that sanctions have been imposed, and after they saw action with three suspended players.

Later, the San Sebastian Stags brought down the JRU Heavy Bombers, 92-74, to move up to the fifth spot with their 6-7 slate. Peter Atencio

The JRU Heavy Bombers, who showed up with six players, dropped to sixth at 6-8, after the Stags scored 22 triples.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has stepped in and already assembled a fact-finding committee to investigate the incident involving Amores.

A representative of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and commissioner Bong Coo has been asked to be part of the fact-finding committee.
