4 pillars for healthy babies

Moms are not called superwomen for nothing. From carrying babies for nine months to giving birth to them, moms endure all kinds of sacrifices and pain for their children.

In a special Halloween event organized for moms organized by Cetaphil Philippines, experts discussed four healthy pillars for the baby’s health and development.

Each pillar plays a vital role in helping every mom raise her kids while navigating the world of motherhood. Interconnected with each other, these pillars are integral during the first phases of a baby’s development.

First Pillar: Healthy Food

Moms are encouraged to breastfeed their babies. Experts explain that exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby’s life is very important.

Breastmilk contains essential nutrients such as fat, protein, carbohydrate, minerals, and vitamins that a newborn baby needs in developing healthy organs that would protect them against common childhood illnesses.

After six months, it is also suggested to start introducing them to solid foods. According to UNICEF, breastmilk might be their main source of energy and nutrients, but solid foods should be added to their diet “to keep up with their growing needs.” Their first foods need to be soft so they’re very easy to swallow, such as porridge or well-mashed fruits and vegetables.

Parents are also encouraged to have their babies experience family meals during the first feeding.

Second Pillar: Healthy Sleep

During their first few months, it is normal for babies to wake up every two to three hours. It is also normal for them to be awake at night, usually until their sixth month.

Being flexible at any time of the day is also an important role for moms to be able to respond to their babies’ needs, such as carrying them whenever they cry, feeding them, and changing their diapers.

Moms eventually need to teach babies how to self-soothe by helping them to associate falling asleep with being in their bed or cribs.

Third Pillar: Healthy Play

The introduction of age-appropriate toys is important for children’s development, self-regulation, and executive functioning.

Moreover, as much as moms want to protect their children from the things around them, it is also essential for kids to go outside of their comfort zones—literally and figuratively—for the continuous development of their different senses—smell, touch, sight, taste, and hearing—and their socialization skills.

Experts recommend complete immunizations to prevent children from catching illnesses.

Fourth Pillar: Healthy Skin

When it comes to keeping the baby’s skin healthy, moms always look for the right skincare. Along with the other healthy pillars, having healthy skin for babies is such an important part of their overall health because it will protect them throughout their life.

Made to keep baby’s skin soft, smooth, and protected, Cetaphil Baby offers moms the best way to give babies the right foundation for healthy skin by supporting its development as it matures from its earliest stages onward.
