Filipinas drag Costa Ricans to 1-1 draw

Katrina Guillou scored during the three minutes of added time to power the Philippine national women’s football team to a 1-1 draw with Costa Rica in their friendly at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela.

The 28-year-old Filipino-American midfielder found the net after the Costa Ricans failed to clear their lines in the closing minutes of the match.

Guillou equalized after Costa Rican forward Priscilla Chinchilla slammed a goal  in the 57th minute, off a cross from her captain Melissa Herrera.

We have to really work hard on that to improve our technique, our first touch, and our passing if we’re going to compete with good teams like these in their home, teams that are going to the World Cup,” said coach Allen Stajcic of the team, collectively known as Filipinas.

Goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel kept highly regarded Costa Rican booters, Cristin Ganados and Carolina Venegas from scoring with her saves.
