Xiong-Lee showdown excites fans worldwide

ONE Championship superstars Xiong Jing Nan and Angela Lee will step into the Circle for the third time as the headliners of ONE Fight Night 2 on October 1 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

This matchup is Lee’s second attempt at “The Panda’s” ONE Strawweight World Championship. “Unstoppable” already holds the atomweight strap and is looking to be the organization’s first female two-division titleholder.

Below, we break down why this fight promises to have fans on the edge of their seats.

Each athlete holds one win over the other

The stakes are high in this fight, a fight that will ultimately determine who is the more dominant fighter.

Xiong dropped Lee in their first fight in the fifth round at ONE: A NEW ERA in March of 2019. The Chinese athlete retained her strawweight World Title and snapped Lee’s undefeated fight record by doing so.

Months later, “The Panda” made a bid for Lee’s atomweight strap at ONE: CENTURY PART I. Once again a fifth-round finish was secured—but this time by “Unstoppable,” who submitted Xiong with a rear-naked choke.

Gold is up for grabs

While this is Lee’s second shot at the strawweight strap, there is much more on the line for the 26-year-old.

If she can overcome the seven-time ONE Strawweight World Champion’s striking and grappling prowess, “Unstoppable” could become the only other current two-division ONE World Champion aside from Reinier de Ridder, and the only woman in the organization’s history to lay claim to that feat.

However, if Lee is unsuccessful, it’s likely that “The Panda” could make another run for her atomweight belt. There is a lot at stake and history to be made when these two dominant competitors meet.

Someone’s win streak will be snapped

Lee has won two consecutive fights in incredible fashion. Her latest win came at the expense of Stamp Fairtex after a second-round submission at ONE X in March. Prior to that, she scored a submission victory over Xiong at ONE: CENTURY PART I in October 2019.

Xiong has been victorious three times since her last meeting with “Unstoppable.” The 34-year-old’s latest victory came by unanimous decision against Ayuka “Zombie” Miura at ONE: HEAVY HITTERS. She also took home wins against Tiffany “No Chill” Teo and Michelle Nicolini.

Fans will be entertained regardless of the outcome of this fast-paced fight, and they should be sure to not miss it.

In the meantime, download the ONE Super App to catch all the action at ONE 161: Petchmorakot vs. Tawanchai on Thursday, September 29, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
