The choice of Jose Emmanuel “Noli” Eala as the new chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission is a good one.
Philippine Olympic Committee president Rep. Abraham Tolentino said this after learning that Eala is coming aboard to handle the affairs of the government sports agency.
Tolentino believes that Eala will be able to work well and have a good relationship with the POC, the national sports associations, and national athletes.
“A wonderful choice by our President BBM (Bong Bong Marcos), he (Eala) is a sportsman himself and has been involved with it for many decades. He surely knows the necessity of athletes and coaches and all sport federations,” said Tolentino.
Eala’s understanding of Philippine sports will help him and the PSC’s plans and programs to work well
“I hope for a good chemistry for both the PSC and the POC in achieving common goals for the best of the country with regards to sports. I wish him all the best,” added Tolentino.
Eala held the position of Philippine Basketball Association commissioner from 2003 to 2007. After he became a boxing promoter, he organized the regional cage tournament Liga Pilipinas and later on became the executive director of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
The uncle of top Filipino junior player Alex Eala, the new PSC chief later handled the sports program of San Miguel Corporation.
While waiting to be sworn in, Eala will continue talking about the topics that he loves to dabble on his weekly television program “Power and Play” on TV5.
In a statement, Eala said that sports has always been his passion, and his “involvement in sports for the last 33 years in almost every facet is a testimony to this.”
He will be the 11th chairman of the PSC, replacing William “Butch” Ramirez.
Ramirez stepped down last June, handing over the reins to executive director Atty. Guillermo Iroy and commissioner Bong Coo, who both stood as officers-in-charge of the PSC while they waited for the naming of a new chairman
