Actor Johnny Depp, attempting to relaunch his career after a horrific defamation dispute with his ex-wife Amber Heard, made an appearance as a floating astronaut hovering above the audience at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.
In his moon-designed helmet, or rather a virtual representation of his face, the Pirates of the Caribbean star descended from the ceiling.
Depp’s performance and role for the VMA’s were to transition between the awards and the music. The actor’s brief cameo as a full-sized astronaut follows outstanding performances – Jack Harlow, Fergie, and Lizzo.
Later in the ceremony, Depp seized the chance to make jokes, saying he is available for “Birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, marriages, wakes, whatever old thing you need.”
His carer comeback would direct his first film in 25 years, returning to the big screen as King Louis XV in the French movie Jeanne du Barry. He quoted, “Looking forward to the future, both personally and professionally.”
