‘Florita’ left P500m infra damage in Ilocos, Cagayan

Tropical storm Florita which hit northern Luzon last week, has left at least P500 million worth of damage to vital infrastructure, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Monday.

infrastructures suffered varying degrees of damage in the Ilocos Region and the Cagayan Valley,

Worst hit was the Ilocos Region where at least 93 infrastructures were destroyed to the tune of , was P474.5 million.

Cagayan Valley had nine damaged infrastructures worth P24.4 million.

According to the NDRRMC, the Department of Agriculture reported P3.41 million in damage to the Ilocos Region’s agriculture sector due to Florita.

Meanwhile, the National Irrigation Administration reported P10.8 million damage in the Calabarzon.

Nine roads in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Bicol Region were badly affected, while three bridges in Ilocos Region and Cagayan Valley also remained impassable.

A total of 72 houses were also torn apart by the storm, 47 of which were in Cagayan Valley, 24 in Ilocos Region, and one in the CAR.

At least 31,936 families or 129,768 people were displaced in 486 barangays in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, CAR, and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Nearly 300 families or 993 individuals remained in 20 evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, 167 displaced families or 617 individuals were also staying outside of evacuation centers.

The reported death toll remained at three while the number of reported injured individuals was pegged at four as of Monday.

The NDRRMC said that a total of P7.7 million worth of assistance have been distributed to the typhoon victims.

The aid consisted of family kits, hygiene kits, family food packs, and tents, among others.
