The Philippines was the fourth fastest automotive market in Southeast Asia in the first half of 2022, with sales hitting 154,874 units, up 16.7 percent from 132,767 units sold during the same period in 2021.
Total sales in the region, according to the latest statistics released by the Asean Automotive Federation (AAF), increased by 23.2 percent to 1.64 million units from 1.33 million units while those of Philippine sales improved by a notch from the fifth place in May 2022 to fourth in June.
Indonesia remained the biggest market with sales of 475,321 units from January to June 2022, up 20.8 percent from 393,466 units last year, followed Thailand with a 22.6-percent growth to 457,622 from 373,191 units.
Malaysia sold 331,386 units, higher by 33 percent from 249,178 a year ago, while Vietnam posted an increase of 16.3 percent to 30,742 unit from 26,432 units. Singapore and Myanmar posted decline in sales by 34.2 percent to 33,401 units and 8.3 percent to 21,965 units, respectively.
