CEMEX showcases co-processing technology at DENR Solid Waste Management Summit

CEMEX Philippines presented its co-processing technology during the Solid Waste Management Summit of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-NCR) recently held at the Manila Hotel.

In line with the summit’s theme, “Strengthening Waste Management for a Healthier Environment,” Atty. Christer Gaudiano, ERM & Corporate Communications & Public Affairs Director at CEMEX Philippines, highlighted how the company has been managing solid wastes effectively and collaborating with local government units (LGUs) and the private sector to promote sustainable waste management.

CEMEX Philippines team led by Atty. Christer Gaudiano and Atty. Lysander Castillo received a plaque of appreciation from Engr. Jean Borromeo, OIC Chief, Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement Division and Ms. Shealy Reginio, OIC Chief, Ecological Solid Waste Management Section of the Environmental Management Bureau, NCR (DENR-EMB NCR Region).

“In CEMEX Philippines, we offer reliable and efficient waste management solutions that allow businesses and local governments to co-process their solid waste with us, leaving a more positive impact on communities and the environment,” Atty. Gaudiano said.

The co-processing technology of CEMEX demonstrates a proven sustainable waste disposal solution recognized by the DENR. It involves the use of a cement kiln, a furnace operating at extremely hot temperatures of around 1,500 degrees Celsius that guarantees the complete breakdown of waste and toxic substances. The technology eliminates residual waste, eventually reducing landfill space in the long-term.

CEMEX Philippines’ ERMCCPA Director Atty. Christer Gaudiano presented the company’s sustainable solid waste management solutions at the DENR Solid Waste Management Summit.

At present, CEMEX has already established partnerships with 25 LGUs in Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Cebu and Negros Oriental for co-processing.

Addressing solid waste management is an integral part of the company’s “Future in Action”, a CEMEX global initiative to address climate change. This strategy focuses on reducing C02 emissions by 35% by 2025 and around 40% by 2030. CEMEX’s ultimate goal is to become a net-zero C02 company by 2050.
