A total of P1-million will be at stake when the Philippine-led of the Asia Pacific Predator League gets under way at the end of August.
Organizers said in-person competitions during the Grand Finals will be held now that COVID-19 cases in the country are subsiding.
And this will be the first time in two years that face-to-face gameplay is finally allowed since 2019.
“The finals are now going to be onsite now that the cases are subsiding,” said Jelo Paguntalan, one of the organizers of the Predator League in the Philippines, on Saturday during the CONQuest Festival 2022 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
This year, the competitions will have two tournaments: Dota 2 and PUBG:BATTLEGROUNDS.
A top prize of P500,000 will be offered to the champions of each title event, with P200,000 going to the runners-up.
The winners will qualify to the Asian Pacific Grand Finals from November 11 to 13 in Japan, a series of competitions that will be done on an in-person format as well.
Teams across the Asia-Pacific region, from 15 countries and territories will battle it out for a total prize pool: US$400,000.
The playoffs in the Philippine leg will get going on Aug. 29, with the grand finals set from Sept. 17 to 18.
A single round robin format will be held for the elimination round, and until the playoffs, while the finals will be a best-of-three affair.
Philippine Esports Organization executive director Marlon Marcelo said Predator is one of the brands to the heart of enthusiasts, through its tournaments that they will continue to support esports initiatives in the Philippines.
Acer Philippines General Manager Susie Ong Lim said that the Predator League is now on its fourth year.
And even if tournaments were done online during the pandemic over the last two years, their events continued to attract massive supports from fans.
