YouTube celebrates PSY‘s “Gangnam Style” on its 10th anniversary and plans to honor the milestone by unveiling an exclusive, unique custom “Billion Views Club” logo later this year.
The viral sensation “Gangnam Style,” released on July 15, 2012, is widely known as the first music video ever to reach a billion views in YouTube history. As of writing, the music video has 4.4 billion views on youtube in 2022.
On its historic achievement, the South Korean rapper shared that carrying such a record was an “extraordinary feeling” ten years ago, and it remains the same today. “To have played a role in paving the way for the music of all kinds to transcend borders is a true honor,” PSY added.
In honor of the YouTube Billion Views Club’s decade-long journey, K-pop favorites BLACKPINK and BTS join PSY among the top runners of BVC to get recognized on the said occasion.
With six videos that reached a billion views, BLACKPINK’s “DDU-DU-DDU-DU,” “BOOMBAYAH,” “As If It’s Your Last,” “Kill This Love,” “How You Like That MV,” and “How You Like That” performance video has made its place on the list of their youtube records.
Meanwhile, BTS has six videos that reached the milestone as of 2022, including “Boy With Luv,” “IDOL,” “Fake Love,” “MIC Drop,” “DNA,” and “Dynamite.”
YouTube established the ‘Billion Views Club’ (BVC) less than six months after “Gangnam Style” peaked at a billion views, and in the span of ten years, many music artists have joined the club. Some members include Justin Bieber, Adele, J Balvin, Daddy Yankee, Luis Fonsi, and many more.
