Shell PH opens 1st EV fast-charging station in PH

A black Jaguar I-Pace EV400 full electric vehicle became the first automobile that got plugged into a 180-kilowatt charging station that Shell Philippines got up and running Thursday morning at its sprawling Mamplasan gas station complex.

The luxury vehicle, which runs on an 90 KwH battery, got hooked through the left-front port of the engine block’s back, via a gas pump-shaped plug attached to a cable that has been hooked to a power supply.

The setup, known as the Shell Recharge Station, is located inside a shed, in the middle of the many restaurants and shops that Shell-Mampalasan offers to travellers in the Southern Luzon Expressway’s southbound lane.

The charging station is powered by solar panels attached to the roof of the shed and is the first of eight that Shell Philippines is planning to put up throughout Luzon later this year.

“We will probably be building to around 3 to 8 this year. But the good thing about this is that this is a very fast charger,” said Randy del Valle, General Manager and Vice President of Shell Mobility Philippines.

Del Valle talked about their plans during morning-long festivities in the presence of top company officials, led by Amr Adel, senior vice president of Shell Mobility Asia.

Also gracing the launch were Carol Chen, SVP for Global Marketing; Lorelie Osial, President and CEO of Shell Companies in the Philippines; Ivstan Kapitany, EVP for Shell Mobility; and Mih Yih Tan, SVP for Mobility Network.

Shell Mobility is making available the first and most powerful DC fast charger for EVs along the expressways located in North and South Luzon.

The station in Mamplasan has two charging points with CCS2 connectors, and two vehicles can charge at the same time, and will be topped up within 30 minutes, and for P65 per minute.

Their recent project is part of Shell’s plans to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050.

This in step with numerous companies’ plans to meet the goals of the United Nation’s Paris Agreement on climate change.

Shell is focused reducing emissions from their ongoing operations and providing more low-carbon energy, such as charging for electric vehicles, hydrogen and electricity generated by solar and wind power.
