AG&P preparing to operate 1st LNG terminal this year

Atlantic, Gulf & Pacific International Holdings said Wednesday it plans to commission the country’s first liquefied natural gas terminal in Batangas City this year.

“In the Philippines, we will commission the country’s first LNG import terminal this year in Ilijan, Batangas Bay on the main island of Luzon. Called the Philippines LNG import terminal, it will store LNG and dispatch natural gas to power plants, opening up a new era of clean, efficient fuel and doing its part for the Philippines to compete for and win investment and jobs in the years to come,” said AG&P Group chairman and chief executive Joseph Sigelman said.

“We are proud of our strategy of ensuring that people and industry have the choice of fuel that will help them prioritize the environment and reduce overall costs at the same time. We profoundly thank the Energy Council for focusing on this important area.” Sigelman said.

Linseed Field Power Corp. and AG&P are building the integrated LNG import terminal in Barangay Ilijan, Batangas City that will serve the requirements of the 1,200-megawatt Ilijan natural gas power plant of San Miguel Corp.

“There is a great increase in LNG export coming in the next years, and there is clear demand from industry, power and home and vehicle owners who want clean, competitive fuel. AG&P’s mission is to bridge the coming surge in gas supply with the customers who need it by providing fast, standardized infrastructure and logistics,” Sigelman said.

The company invested P14.6 billion in the PHLNG import terminal that has a capacity of 5 million tons per annum that will serve to establish the country’s LNG importation and regasification capacity, delivering gas beyond the lifespan of Malampaya to secure the current and future energy demand of the region.

AG&P was recently named the APAC Company of the Year for 2022 in the LNG category of The Energy Council’s Annual Awards of Excellence.

The award represents a global benchmark of excellence for the natural gas and LNG sectors.

“This award recognizes the hard work that our team has invested to develop the terminals and city gas networks that we have already rolled out and are forthcoming across South and Southeast Asia and beyond,” Sigelman said.
