President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has chosen Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesman Col. Ramon Zagala as acting commander of the Presidential Security Group.
Zagala will also serve as Marcos’ Senior Military Assistant when the latter assumes office on June 30.
The PSG is currently headed by Brig. Gen. Randolph Cabangbang.
Zagala, 52, was public affairs chief and spokesman of the Philippine Army before becoming military spokesman in August last year.
He was previously an aide de camp of former President Joseph Estrada.
His father, Maj. Gen. Rafael Zagala, was Army chief from 1972 until 1975 during the presidency of Marcos’ father and namesake.
Marcos has yet to complete his Cabinet nominees, but he promised to do so before he assumes office on Thursday.
He earlier nominated former Armed Forces chief of staff Jose Faustino Jr. as acting head of the Department of National Defense and retired University of the Philippines professor Clarita Carlos as National Security Adviser.
Among his latest nominees are former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile as chief presidential legal counsel and outgoing Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra as Solicitor General.
