DOH: Dengue cases this year ‘manageable’

Dengue cases in the country remain manageable, the Department of Health (DOH) assured Friday.

“Yes… the cases are manageable,” Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said during the Laging Handa briefing.

Cabotaje said the Philippines logged 22,277 dengue cases from January to April, 15 percent lower compared to the cases recorded during the same period last year.

Cabotaje said 13 percent of the cases were from Region III, another 13 percent from Region VII, and 10 percent from the National Capital Region (NCR).

Some 126 individuals have died due to dengue nationwide.

She advised the public to search and destroy breeding places such as flower vases, to wear protective clothing, and seek early consultation.

“Seeking early consultation is important. Don’t brush off fever as a COVID infection. We should also support fogging and spraying in hotspot areas,” Cabotaje said.

The DOH has also advised health facilities to prepare for an increase in admissions, especially for children.
