World’s largest semiconductor foundry selects Armstrong’s VIL Pumps to meet chip shortage worldwide

When Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) decided to expand its recently-built new plant Hsinchu county, Taiwan, the world’s largest independent semiconductor foundry began looking for pump solutions that could be installed quickly and leave minimal carbon footprint.

The plant expansion would enable the company to fill up an impending shortage of chips for many companies like AMD, Apple and Nvidia, to name a few.

Armstrong’s advanced pumps deliver low operational costs, short maintenance time and space savings to businesses such as TSMC.

The team at Armstrong together with its Taiwan distributor, met with TSMC to discuss and ensure that the proposed solutions addressed stringent requirements that included pre-selection configurations, pump specifications, and technical drawings.

Armstrong’s final proposal comprise of 64 units of 4300 vertical in-line (VIL pumps) within the range of 100-400HP to meet TSMC’s HVAC plant expansion needs.

Since its installation compact VIL pumps have consistently provided such benefits as reduced footprint, reliable operation and ease of maintenance. The VIL pumps also enabled TSMC to save space while eliminating the need for a shock-proof base.

In addition, Armstrong’s innovative pumps require short maintenance time so operations can resume quickly. Maintenance and downtime are critical concerns in the semiconductor industry as manufacturers have high expectations for speed of delivery.

“In the Philippines, we would like to work with data centres and industrial complexes as well as hotels, hospitals and other commercial development properties,” says Adrian Tan, the Commercial Director for Asia Pacific of Armstrong Fluid Technology.

Given its superior performance, reliability and energy savings features, Armstrong’s VIL pumps will also deliver significant advantages to data centres and industrial complexes as well as hotels, hospitals and other commercial development properties.
