PROMDI Party standard-bearer Senator Manny Pacquiao said massive corruption resulting to P700 billion in stolen public funds annually will never end unless dishonest officials in government are sent to jail to pay for their sins.
He vowed to put up a mega-prison that will house public officials and employees convicted for violations of the anti-graft law. He lamented that the country’s poor are the ultimate victims of government corruption that appeared to worsen each year.
The boxing champ said he believes that opportunities to commit graft and corruption will be taken advantage of by people in the government unless punishment is guaranteed for the wrongdoers.
He is convinced that corruption is caused by both the frailties of human nature and the government system.
Pacquiao’s proposed priority program of government centers on putting an end to graft in government to provide enough funds that will finance massive housing, address the unemployment problem, and the implementation of other anti-poverty programs.
“I am pained in seeing families who are poor and grow hungry – families denied of opportunities. I always blame the grafters in government,” he said.
“The mega prison i will build will be filled for all of them,” he added.
He aired hopes that the prison facility will put an end to the poverty that he and his family experienced during his youth.
