WGC recognizes SmarTrade CEO as ‘Hero of the Year’

For her commitment in promoting the financial literacy of Filipinos while effecting positive change in the communities she works with, SmarTrade president and chief executive Joyce Ann Mayo was bestowed the ‘Hero of the Year’ award by the Women of Global Change, an international non-profit and social impact organization, and Aspire Magazine Global.

The award is given to individuals and organizations that embody a strong social responsibility and implement humanitarian works.

“A hero is a person that is brave, loving, dedicated, and inspirational. Joyce Mayo displays all of those qualities. She is a CEO and businesswoman who has been helping the citizens of the Philippines for many years and continues to inspire people all over the world through SmarTrade and her other businesses. She is known by so many people around the world for all that she has done. Mayo uses her knowledge and heart for the better good of people making her a true hero,” said Rey Allen Castillo, WGC Philippines representative.

“I believe that business is not purely just business,” said Mayo. “We have to do whatever it is that’s within our power to influence positive change in the communities we work with and with the people we interact with. Each of us has a responsibility to make this place a better world today and for generations to come. Here at SmarTrade, we do that by educating people on how they can be financially literate and this is a mission that really aims to change the lives of the Filipino people.”

With Mayo at its helm, SmarTrade has trained more than 20,000 Filipinos in financial literacy for the past five years. The company has been providing free learning sessions and personalized one-on-one financial coaching to help individuals become financially adept and to teach them how to make better investments for themselves and their families.

The Women of Global Change is a network of business leaders and entrepreneurs working in global business, promoting the belief that every human being should have the right to access clean water, food, health care, education, and income training beyond race, creed, religion, and circumstance.
