The installation of more than 1,650 megawatts of wind projects is expected to infuse more than $1.1 billion in gross value added to the economy in the next five years, according to the Global Wind Energy Council report.

The report, titled “Capturing Green Recovery Opportunities from Wind Power in Developing Economies,” said “those installations would support a 70-percent increase in jobs as well as saving more than 65 million metric tons of carbon emissions equivalent.”

The Department of Energy is pushing for wind power development and collaborated with Carbon Trust and the GWEC to help unlock the country’s massive offshore wind potential.

It held a virtual workshop to determine how the Philippine government and the wind industry could jointly work together to develop the country’s offshore wind potential. The department earlier said the Philippines has an offshore wind power potential of over 170,000 MW. Offshore wind projects are situated in bodies of water which are said to have stronger wind potential than onshore wind projects.
