House Majority Leader and Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) President Martin Romualdez on Tuesday called on candidates and political parties to unite for the good of the country as he extended the message of the UniTeam led by presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his running mate, Lakas-CMD vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Romualdez, who joined the campaign of the UniTeam in Cagayan and Isabela, said the country’s political leaders, political parties and those who are running in the May elections, particularly those who are seeking national positions, should work together as this is what the Filipinos want.
“I think all candidates are listening to the call of UniTeam that so long as we are united, we can rise again. That is why UniTeam’s message and call for unity is very timely. Everybody is welcome regardless of what party he belongs to. Even ordinary citizens are welcome,” he said.
“This is what the people want – that we unite,” Romualdez added.
Meanwhile, Governor Manuel Mamba has endorsed the Marcos-Duterte tandem, a move that is expected to consolidate the so-called Solid North, the traditional bailiwick of the Marcoses, behind the UniTeam ticket.
Mamba said he was encouraged to support the Marcos-Duterte slate because the Nacionalista Party (NP), where the Cagayan governor belongs, has resolved to rally behind the tandem.
“I was for Sara early on. I committed that to President Digong, whether she runs for president or vice president,” said Mamba, a former stalwart of the Liberal Party.
The governor said supporting Duterte-Carpio’s vice presidential bid is also a way to “show gratitude to President Duterte, who has always supported Cagayan and the Cagayanos.”
