Phoenix turns back TNT Giga, 93 to 92

Cashing in on their foe’s three turnovers in the final minute, the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters turned back the TNT Tropang Giga, 93-92, in their comeback game Sunday night in the 2021-22 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Things went downhill for the Tropang Giga when Aaron Fuller and Troy Rosario missed their shots in the last 39 seconds after they took a 92-89 edge.

Jason Perkins answered with a layup following a TNT turnover on the 27-second mark, allowing the Fuel Masters to come to within a point, 91-92.

Matthew Wright then capitalized with a steal after a bungled attempt from Jayson Castro and went for a driving layup that won for Phoenix the game with three ticks to go.

“It’s everybody helping each other out. Guys might struggle, or a regular scorer might struggle a bit. But whoever has a chance to contribute in any way, especially on defense, is much appreciated in this team,” said Fuel Masters’ coach Topex Robinson after they fought their way out of a12-point deficit.

The 6’4” Wright made a game-high 27 points, to go with10 assists, four rebounds and three steals for the Fuel Masters, who improved to 4-2.
Mikey Williams scored 22 points for the Tropang Giga, who now have a 2-4 card.
