Isko hopes for Rody endorsement for bid

Aksyon Demokratiko standard bearer Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso hopes to get the endorsement of President Rodrigo Duterte for his presidential bid in the upcoming May elections.

Duterte and the administration party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) have yet to endorse a presidential candidate, given that the party has no standard bearer.

“I hope I get lucky. I even said publicly, in my infomercials, I assure you that Mindanao, Visayas, Luzon, and to all Filipinos that I will continue the Build Build Build program that he has started so that the money spent from the people’s taxes will not go to waste,” he said in an interview during his visit to Laguna province Thursday, the third day of the 90-day national campaign period.

Meanwhile, Moreno declared he is open to adopting senatorial candidates for as long they will publicly announce their support not only for his presidential candidacy but also for his running mate Dr. Willie Ong, who is the official Aksyon vice presidential candidate.

Also, more than 700,000 families in Manila would be the beneficiaries of food boxes to be distributed the Manila city government to help cushion the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Well, we will not refuse to help us. We’ve already agreed on that. We only have one rule -those who join our senator must tell the public that we are their candidate,” Moreno told reporters in Rodriguez, Rizal on Wednesday.

Moreno has been consistent in his position that guest senatorial candidates should have only one presidential candidate to support. He doesn’t buy the idea of a senatorial bet who is included in the ticket of two or more presidential candidates as this is tantamount to fooling the people.

When he ran for the Senate in 2016, Moreno was in the senatorial ticket of Grace Poe. Moreno refused to be guest senatorial candidate in other tickets after he committed to Senator Poe as his one and only presidential candidate.

He also assured the giving away of food boxes to Manila residents will continue until they are no longer able to do so.

“We want to help our people out of this pandemic,” said Moreno.

While going places to woo the Filipino electorate as the official campaign period for the national elections kicked off February 8, Domagoso assured this will not hamper delivery of basic services to Manilenos.
