Dragon dance and firework displays to celebrate the Lunar New Year will be prohibited in Binondo, Manila on February 1 even as COVID-19 cases continue to decline in the National Capital Region.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso yesterday announced that New Year activities in Binondo – the country’s biggest Chinese community – will be prohibited.
He said he signed an executive order banning public activities in the area during the Chinese New Year.
“I just signed Executive Order No. 11 last night. We are calling on our Filipino-Chinese because this February, they will celebrate the Chinese New Year. Executive Order No. 11 cancels all activities in relation to this celebration of the Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year in the entire Binondo, Chinatown area,” Domagoso said.
“This covers more or less 20 barangays,” added the standard bearer of Aksyon Demokratiko.
He said the selling and drinking of alcoholic beverages is also not allowed from January 31 to February 1.
He said the Filipino-Chinese community can still celebrate the Chinese New Year, but they can do it only in their respective homes.
