Mayor Toby Tiangco has urged business establishments in Navotas to settle their tax obligations early.
The Business One-Stop Shop at the Navotas City Hall ground floor will be open to process new or renewal application of business permits and licenses from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Jan. 2 to 20.
“Our frontline offices will render overtime to accommodate those who could not pay their dues during regular work hours. We hope taxpayers will take advantage of this to avoid long lines or penalties for late payment,” Tiangco said.
The mayor also warned that based on the Navotas Revenue Code of 2017, there will be a 25-percent penalty and an additional 2-percent surcharge for every month the owners fail to register their businesses on time.
“As much as possible, we want to avoid imposing penalties on business establishments that is why we highly encourage them to settle their obligations immediately,” he added.
Tiangco underscored the importance of tax collection to the continued provision of services of the city government.
“Taxes are considered the lifeblood of government. Much of our projects and programs on health, education, livelihood, peace and order, and housing are funded by the taxes we collect,” he said.
Last year, Navotas received recognition from the Bureau of Local Government Finance for its excellent tax collection in 2018.
The city was ranked top 1 in the National Capital Region for Collection Target for Receipts from Economic Enterprises; top 2 in NCR for Collection Target for Total Local Revenues; and top 3 nationwide for Collection Target for Total Local Revenues.
