SMC speeds up P3-b river cleanup program

Conglomerate San Miguel Corp. said Tuesday it is ramping up its P3-billion Tullahan-Tinajeros and Pasig River clean up and rehabilitation program.

San Miguel said in a statement it aimed to remove 1 million tons of waste from the Tullahan-Tinajeros river system by June this year.

San Miguel president and chief executive Ramon Ang expressed confidence the company would achieve its target in four to five months, with daily dredging output already at 3,000 tons per day. Total extraction output since June 2020 already reached 653,434 tons.

“Throughout the pandemic, and through many typhoons that have passed, our clean-up team has been relentless in their efforts to remove waste and silt from the Tullahan River. We’re encouraged by the big, positive changes we’ve already seen after just over one year of cleaning up the river. That’s why we have steadily built up our extraction capacity, bringing in more equipment and employing more people to help,” Ang said.
