‘Observe health guides strictly in evacuation sites’

Worried by the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in most parts of the country, presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio have called on local officials in areas devastated by Typhoon Odette to ensure that health protocols are being strictly observed in evacuation centers where thousands of victims are temporarily staying.

The call was made after the country’s health department reported a record number of new cases in the past days with the more transmissible Omicron variant now considered the dominant strain.

“Let us not increase their (victims’) suffering. We must make sure that Covid cannot enter the evacuation centers, it is a bigger problem when it happens,” the UniTeam said in a statement.

The tandem also called on local government units to regularly disinfect temporary shelters and provide all necessary health and hygiene kits, hand wash soaps, alcohols and face masks.

“It is important that apart from being in good condition, they must also ensure that they are safe with Covid19. The health protocols implemented by the government must be followed especially now that the number of cases of the virus continues to rise.”

The tandem has committed to continue distributing aid and relief goods to typhoon victims despite the threat of COVID-19.
