MMDA to deploy 1k traffic cops

The Metro Manila Development Authority will deploy more than 1,000 traffic personnel starting Monday, Jan. 6 as thousands of Filipinos are expected to return to Manila from the respective provinces following a long holiday weekend.

The MMDA said it will deploy more traffic personnel on major thoroughfares, transportation terminals and other key areas in Metro Manila to manage traffic flow.

In a statement, the MMDA also said a "no day-off and no absent" policy will also be enforced among traffic enforcers on Monday up to Friday.

“Traffic personnel will be fielded on traffic chokepoint areas in Metro Manila such as vicinity of bus terminals, roads leading to seaports, harbors, and airports; and major churches,” the MMDA said.

The MMDA said traffic on Monday, where thousands of students and workers will be back is expected to be worse than usual, with the flow of traffic expected to be at 14 kilometers per hour (kph) from the usual 19 kph. This means a 20-minute trip may stretch to 45 minutes or more.
