Two leaders of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry questioned the conduct of the 2021 annual general membership meeting and election of directors last month.
Former PCCI president and Ambassador Benedicto Yujuico and former director Jesus Varela asked the court to declare null and void the nominations for the election of the board of directors and the election of the PCCI directors on Dec. 3, 2021
The petitioners said the election conducted during the annual general membership meeting was in violation of the Revised Corporation Code, PCCI’s by-laws and Omnibus Election Code. The petitioners also alleged that the election committee failed to properly conduct the nominations required for the election of PCCI directors and refused to validate the proxies and ballots.
Yujuico said the election body’s actions prevented him as designated person or chairman of the meeting to exercise the rights covered by the proxy forms and ballots and disenfranchised PCCI members who intended to attend and vote during the 2021 general membership meeting by proxy.
