‘Electrical, not arson caused Star City fire’

Electrical problem caused the fire that razed the Star City amusement park in Pasay City last October.

This was the conclusion reached by investigators of the Bureau of Fire Protection, as the agency denied that arson caused the fire, as earlier claimed by some officials.

BFP spokesman Senior Supt. Gerandie Agonos, it was an electrical problem that caused the fire, but did not give any specifics.

Earlier, an investigator said evidence, including “gasoline in an area where it should not be,” pointed to arson. He added that a certain Mr. Wong and Star City personnel who did not sign a logbook were also allegedly spotted carrying sacks of cotton before the Oct. 2 fire.

But the Star City management rejected this, saying there was no reason for the owners to set the theme park on fire because business was “profitable” and “a bumper Christmas season was expected.”

The park management said Star City will reopen “in due time,” according to its website.
