Technology giant Google updated its privacy measures, specifically on loaning apps, in response to numerous complaints filed by the Philippines Malaysia and Vietnam.

The National Privacy Commission said most of the loaning apps in mobile gadgets found their way online via Google play. Many of these app are engaged in financial scams.

“It’s a phenomenon that was heavily felt in the Philippines. There were reports that it (Google) has also received complaints from Malaysia and Vietnam. That’s why in the recent ASEAN privacy forum, we summoned Google to also present these developments,” said NPC Commissioner Raymund Liboro.

Google has instituted a new rule under Google Play, allowing an app that has a repayment period of 60 days.

Liboro noted that the privacy case with Google had been taken up internationally and received the attention of territories that do not even have privacy laws to start with.

“We spoke to Sally Holland, the head of legal of google world and they’re really looking at this phenomenon,” Liboro added.

Google had, so far, taken down 27 loaning apps, upon the prodding of the commission.
