Casugay earns Fair Play Award

Capas, Tarlac—Surfing champion Roger Casugay was handed the Fair Play Award at the close of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Casugay was recognized for the heroics that he did last week when he fought Arip Nurhidiyat in the men’s long board event at Monaliza Point in La Union.

Arip got into trouble in the big waves that day, when the Indonesian’s surfboard had its leash detached and he fell into the water.

It was Casugay himself who rescued Nurhidiyat without regards for the result.

Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee chairman Allan Peter Cayetano and Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino were on hand to give Casugay his ward.

A swimmer from Singapore’s Zheng Wen Quah, who had four golds two silvers and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien of Vietnam, who had six golds in swimming, were named outstanding male and female athletes.
