Thai wakeboarders finished their stint on a high note by securing the overall championship in the 30th Southeast Asian Games wakeboard and waterski competition on Sunday at the Deca Wake Park Clark in Pampanga.
Thailand flexed its muscle as it swept the wakeboard category, while host nation Philippines dominated the wakeskate competition.
Patcharapon Jungguluam topped the wakeboard ladies’ after scoring 72.33 points followed by Filipinas Samantha Bermudez (62.67) and Nadya Sinaga (45.33).
Sanya Phonthip had a 72.67 showing to quash Raphael Trinidad of the Philippines, 69.33, and rule the men’s wakeboard. Trinidad’s compatriot Ralph Gelo Villaro settled for the bronze at 61.00 points.
The Philippines’ Susan Larsson and Jhondi Wallace, meanwhile, bagged the gold medals in the wakeskate finals.
Larsson posted a 61.00 score to beat Thip Penpayap of Thailand (50.00) and Alysha RIzwan of Singapore (39.33).
Wallace had 70.33 points and came out on top of silver medalist Polapat Romchatngoen of Thailand (67.00) and bronze finisher from the Philippines, Christian Joson (64.33).
Thailand wound up with two gold and three silver medals, followed by the Philippines’ 2-2-2 gold-silver-bronze haul.
Indonesia finished with one gold and one bronze while Malaysia and Singapore brought home one bronze apiece.
