Some 42 additional policemen, recognized for their heroic deeds during the Marawi City siege in 2017, have been granted special promotions, the National Police Commission on Monday said.
NAPOLCOM Vice Chairman Rogelio Casurao said the Commission en banc had approved eight resolutions confirming the special promotion of the latest batch of cops who had risked their lives to free Marawi City from the ISIS-inspired Maute group.
“Their acts of conspicuous courage, gallantry in action and self-sacrifice clearly manifest their commitment to serve and protect the people and their noteworthy accomplishment earned distinct honor and credit not only for themselves but for the entire police organization as well,” Casurao said.
Casurao said 20 police from the PNP Intelligence Group were promoted for their exemplary performance in providing assistance to the PNP Special Action Force in locating their armored vehicles and their crew who were trapped on the ground.
Ten policemen were also promoted for their bravery in action during the anti-carnapping operations. Two others, meanwhile, were promoted for their gallantry despite the gunfire from snipers in the battle area.
Casurao added the special posthumous promotion of three policemen who had sacrificed their lives to liberate Marawi City was also approved.
At present, NAPOLCOM already promoted a total of 948 policemen for their contribution in fighting local terrorists in war-torn Marawi City.
In October 2017, Marawi City was liberated from local terrorist groups led by the Maute group and Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon after more or less five months of battle.
