Manila Electric Co. inaugurated Thursday one its most technologically advanced power infrastructures, an integrated and fully-automated Gas-Insulated Switchgear substation that will power Bridgetowne, the premiere township development project of Robinsons Land Corp.
The new substation at Bridgetowne, which straddles the cities of Pasig and Quezon City, is part of Meralco’s roadmap to ensure adequate and reliable power supply to the growing needs of the locators within the 31-hectare project.
Bridgetowne is comprised of residential condominiums, office buildings, shopping centers, a five-star hotel, as well as parks, a school, a hospital and public art installation.
“RLC allowed Meralco to build this substation for the exponential growth expected for Bridgetowne,” Meralco president Ray Espinosa said during the launching ceremonies.
Meralco’s facility, with an initial capacity of 83 mega volt-ampere, is situated in a 1,293 square-meter parcel of land provided by RLC through a collaborative real estate arrangement. Residential communities in the area are set to benefit from the Bridgetowne substation.
“The Bridgetowne substation will definitely improve dependability and reliability of electricity service in the Bridgetowne community and surrounding growth areas, as it relieves expected critical loading of nearby Hillcrest, Cainta, and SM-Shangri-la substations. Likewise, the new technology utilized is expected to deliver an unprecedented amount of functionality for the benefit of Meralco and its customers,” said Meralco head of networks Ronnie Aperocho.
Meralco’s digital substations include Valencia substation in N. Domingo in San Juan and the Pagcor substation near Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Other digital substations up for installation include Eton Centris in Quezon City, Net Park and Arca South in Taguig and Escoda in Manila.
Proximity to a substation improves electric reliability and dependability, making it more enticing for businesses and BPOs to move their office spaces into Bridgetowne.
“Our vision for Bridgetowne is to increase job opportunities and progress in Quezon City, Pasig, and the immediate communities,” said RLC president Frederick Go.
“And the fastest way to bring this vision to reality—for all our locators, and those residing and working in the area—is to collaborate with entities, such as Meralco, who share this vision with us,” he said.
