Tropical Storm “Sarah” accelerated and maintained its strength on Wednesday.
But Typhoon “Ramon” weakened significantly after making landfall in Santa Ana, Cagayan, at 12:20 a.m. on Wednesday, prompting the weather bureau to downgrade it to a tropical depression.
“Ramon” is forecast to weaken into a low-pressure area before leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the next 24 hours.
The center of “Sarah” was estimated at 540 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
Packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, Sarah was moving north-northwest at 30 kph.
Tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 remained in effect over Batanes, the northeastern portion of Cagayan, Lai-lo, Buguey, Gonzaga, Santa Ana, and the Calayan group of islands including Babuyan Islands.
