Grade Twelve (Senior High) Noel Michael Kampton and the Perpetual Junior Altas of Caviteno coaches Sandy Rieta and Jason Sapin are gunning for a sixth straight title in the coming National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 95, which unfurls on Jan. 4, 2020.
The 19-year-old, 6’2” Kampton and his teammates want to graduate from their beloved Alma Mater with an unprecedented “six-peat” in the oldest collegiate athletic association in the country.
Kampton, who averaged 15 points per game in Season 94, was awarded as the 2nd Best Outside Spiker when the Altas clinched a fifth straight championship in the league.
Kampton also teamed up with Cebuano Dominique Gabito as they won the Season 94 beach volleyball championship by defeating the Letran Squires at the SM by the Bay Sand Court in Pasay City last February, 2019. He was named MVP of the tournament.
He was also one of the members of the Team Junior Altas Spikers from 2016 to 2018, together with Tropang Palanan Boys EJ Casana, now playing for the Altas Spikers of Coach Sammy Acaylar, Jody Severo now with PATTS, libero Carlo Isidro and open spiker Ivan Encila now playing with the Arellano University Chiefs and Ryugi Etorma, now at Tytana College.
He was also tapped in 2017 and 2018 by Palarong Pambansa champion team Calabarzon in their ASEAN University Games’ campaign in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, respectively. They captured the bronze in 2017 and settled for fourth the following year.
Kampton was awarded Most Valuable Player and Best Attacker in the Palarong Pambansa 2016 in Legaspi City, Bicol, while his Team Las Pinas, representing NCR, captured the High School Boys’ Volleyball Plum.
The volleyball career of Kampton started when he was in Grade IV at St. Joseph College in QC, under Coach Abner Genuino, who inspired him to play the sport.
When he entered high school at Nazareth School (National University) in 2013, he was adjudged Rookie of the Year and Best Attacker, while becoming a UAAP Junior Volleyball Champion in 2014.
Kampton, the only son of Melody Kampton and Nathan Jose, who are now based in the United States, was also a member of “five-peat” champion League of Southern Manila Schools (LSMS) from 2015 to 2019.
“We are conditioning and training, eager to get that sixth consecutive championship, para maganda ang exit namin sa Perpetual. Together with Season 93 MVP Kirth Rosos, Dominique Gabito, Derick Germono, Kharyle Parce, we are all graduating this April, 2019,” said Kampton.
“In College, I am planning to take IT or a Sports Science Course. Gusto ko din mag-try-out both sa UAAP and NCAA schools, including Perpetual Altas. I want to know, kung saan ako mag-fit na team and system nila,” Kampton added.
The Perpetual Junior Altas volleyball team won 11 titles in 35 years as a member of the league. They won four consecutive titles from 1987 to 1990, back-to-back crowns in 2009 and 2010 and five straight titles, under Rieta and Sapin from 2014 to 2018.
