The Makati City government will enforce a road closure and traffic rerouting scheme on major streets in the city beginning today in connection with the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
“In observance of All Saints Day 2019, please be advised that the Makati Public Safety Department will be implementing road closures and traffic rerouting on Oct. 31, Thursday, starting at 12:01 a.m. up to midnight of Nov. 2, Saturday,” the city’s Information and Community Relations Department stated in its advisory.
Roads that will be closed to vehicular traffic are South Avenue (From Metropolitan Avenue to J.P. Rizal Street), Kalayaan Avenue (From Zapote Street to N. Garcia Street), and Vito Cruz Avenue Extension (From Zapote Street to South Avenue).
A two-way traffic will be implemented along J.P. Rizal Avenue (From Makati Avenue to Pasong Tirad Street and vice-versa) and Zapote Avenue (From J.P. Rizal Avenue to Metropolitan Avenue and vice-versa), while one-way traffic will be along Metropolitan Avenue (From South Avenue to Jupiter Street).
In Quezon City, the local government unit’s Task Force for Transport and Traffic also has laid out a traffic rerouting scheme for motorists planning to visit cemeteries in the observance of the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day break.
“We have prepared for the commemoration of Undas this year by mobilizing our newly formed Task Force for Transport and Traffic, led by Atty. Ariel Inton,” she said.
The cemeteries included in the scheme are Manila North Cemetery, Eternal Garden Memorial Park, Baesa public cemetery, Novaliches public cemetery, Himlayang Pilipino and San Juan City public cemetery.
She ordered the deployment of personnel from the Quezon City Police District, Department of Public Order and Safety and Barangay Public Safety Officers in villages near these cemeteries to assist in traffic and security at the vicinity.
She also directed the mobilization of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for emergency situations.
Makati City chief information officer Romulo Salgado Jr. said motorists are advised to expect road congestion and a stop-and-go traffic scheme.
Vehicles along J.P. Rizal Avenue, coming from Delpan Street – Eastbound (Heading towards Barangay Poblacion or Guadalupe Area) are advised to travel straight to temporary two-way J.P. Rizal Avenue to destination while those coming from Makati Avenue Area – Westbound (Heading towards Delpan Street or Manila City) must take straight to temporary two-way J.P. Rizal Avenue to destination.
Vehicles along Ayala Avenue Extension, coming from Central Business District Area – Northbound and Westbound (Heading towards The Circuit, Delpan Street, Sta. Ana – Manila Area) are advised to turn left to Metropolitan Avenue, right to Zapote Street (temporary two-way). Afterwards, turn left to J.P. Rizal Avenue (temporary two-way), then, turn right to A.P. Reyes Avenue to destination.
Those coming from Central Business District Area – Eastbound (Heading towards N. Garcia, Bel-Air Villages, Makati Avenue, and Makati City Hall) must turn left to Metropolitan Avenue, right to Zapote Street (temporary two-way). Afterwards, turn right to J.P. Rizal Avenue (temporary two-way) and head straight to Makati City Hall or Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge. They can also turn right to N. Garcia Street, then turn left to Kalayaan or Jupiter Street to destination.
Vehicles along J.P. Rizal Avenue, coming from Delpan and Sta. Ana Area – Southbound (Heading towards Makati Central Business District Area or Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue Area via usual Zapote Street) are advised to turn right to Zapote Street (temporary two-way), left to Kamagong Street to destination.
Salgado said traffic enforcers, police, and medical personnel would be deployed to assist motorists.
Designated parking spaces are available at South Cemetery, Makati City Cemetery and Makati Catholic Cemetery.
