Pactolerin tops ‘Play with Masters’

Many-time Philippine Masters champion Robert Pactolerin cashed in on his local knowledge of the Villamor Golf Club layout, shooting a three-under 69 and beating recent National pro-am winner Rey Pagunsan by three to rule the “Play with the Masters” golf tournament in Pasay recently.

Tony Arevalo, Leonardo Sanchez and former Philippine Open winner Mario Manubay all carded 73s while Domeng Umadhay made a 76 and Ernie Rellon, Luis Paraiso and Herman Umadhay scored identical 79s in the 18-hole tournament that featured some of the country’s leading seniors and graced by a number of amateurs and golfing ladies from various sectors.

Danny Fortusa shot an 80, Mario Siodina and Abad Jorge carded identical 81s and Bong Sanchez, Sonny Barbo and Arnaldo Gomez each made an 82 in a rare gathering of players who dominated the local tour during their prime.

The tournament, organized by the Senior Professional Golfers Association of the Philippines and backed by Ellesse, RMN Media and Marketing Ventures, Seven Echo, Serve Well, Lubestraders Corp., distributor of Shell Oil and GCAP Ventures Philippines, was also staged to raise funds for the training and upgrading of the senior pros' teaching skills.

Sharing center stage were winners in various categories, including Paniong  Bandoquillo (low gross-73); Jose Casanova (Regular Class A-net 70); Efrain Pedregoza (Class B-net 71); Andrew Pastoril (Class C-net 75); Freddie Po (Seniors Class A-net 71); Ding Kalinga (Class B-net 71); Manny Diaz (Class C-net 73); and Nora delos Santos, who made a net 71 to edge Glenda Da Roza, who scored a net 75, for the ladies crown.Other fun-hole winners were Gene Sermonia (most accurate drive), Josel Casanova (longest drive), Pedregoza (nearest to the pin) and Choi Byung Man (longest putt).
