Eala jumps to no. 13 in ITF jr rankings

Alexandra Eala has jumped to no. 13 in the International Tennis Federation junior rankings.

The 14-year-old Eala has improved 14 notches from 27th in the previous month, according to the ITF’s new ranking list.

Eala, who missed the cut for the national team to the 30th Southeast Asian Games, tallied 300 ITF points last weekend after she took runner-up honors in last weekend’s Grade A World Super Juniors Osaka Cup in Japan.

This gave her a total tally to 1,245 points.

Because of this, Eala is now the third best among Asian junior players, putting her behind world no. 7 Qinwen Zheng of China and Natsumi Kawaguchi of Japan.

Eala’s rise in the rankings came following a series of international campaigns over the last two months.

And her stints include her Grand Slam debut at the United States Open and her Grade A triumph victory in Capetown, South Africa.

While campaigning in Capetown, Eala’s rankings first started to move up, from 92nd to 26th last September 24.

Eala is expected to seek a slot for the national team in the next SEA Games.
