The Supreme Court has paved the way for the trial of one of the officials of Sulpicio Lines for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicides, in connection with the 2008 sinking of M/V Princess of the Stars where 227 people died and 592 went missing.
This came after the SC has ordered an entry of judgment of its Dece. 10, 2018 decision, which has become final and executory.
The copy of the entry of judgment made public on Tuesday referred to the decision penned by Associate Justice Jose C. Reyes Jr., which ordered the Manila City Regional Trial Court, Branch 5, to reinstate the criminal case for reckless imprudence against Edgar S. Go, SLI first vice president for Administration and team leader of the Crisis Management Committee.
Associate Justices Diosdado M. Peralta, Marvic Leonen, Alexander Gesmundo, and Ramon Paul Hernando concurred in the decision.
The SC held that the Court of Appeals committed error in coming up with a decision last March 22, 2013 decision and a resolution dated Jan. 8, 2014 that granted Go’s petition to reverse and set aside the resolution of the Department of Justice issued in 2009, which found him liable for reckless imprudence and ordered the filing of the case before the Manila RTC.
