Jamie Lim, who is preparing for her first-ever stint in the Southeast Asian Games, won a gold medal in the 2019 Amatör Spor Haftasi Karate Championship in Sakarya, Turkey last Sunday.
Lim, the daughter of Philippine basketball legend Samboy Lim, ruled the Senior Female -68kgs Kumite.
Team Philippines went on to finish with a gold, three silvers and four bronzes, according to Karatedo Pilipinas president Richard Lim in a statement.
The other medalists are Rexor Tacay (silver, senior male -67kgs kumite), Ivan Agustin (silver, senior male -75kgs kumite), Miyuki Tacay (silver, senior female -61kgs kumite), Mae Soriano (bronze, senior female -55kgs kumite), Engene Dagohoy (bronze, senior male -84kgs Kumite), Prince Alejo (bronze, senior male -67kgs kumite) and Sharief Afif (bronze, senior male -75kgs kumite).
The team, led by their foreign coach, former European and world champion, and former Turkish national coach Okay Arpa, is finishing their two-month training camp in Turkey.
And this is in preparation for the SEA Games.
“Our karate team is right on track with their training and will be expecting their best performance in the upcoming SEA Games this coming December” said Lim.
